is 60ghz internet speeds fast in over wifi

yeah so i just read about qualcomm aquring a company all about advancing wifi and am wondering would this be fast enough for gaming or internet reliant programs.

I gather you're talking 60 Gbps (or 60,000 mbps). And yes that is fast. ADSL2+ is about 20mbps.

But the 60 gbps would be optic fibre based. I'm looking at when optic fibre gets to our house, getting 100mbps. So your's would be 600x as fast. I bet it's expensive though.

I think he's actually referring to WiFi over 60GHz spectrum, as opposed to 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz.

Very fast, but hopeless about going through stuff. Anything much thicker than paper stops it.

He's talking about 60ghz, the frequency. This is not the bandwidth though. It's just the broadcast frequency. You can have the same internet speed you have now at 2.4ghz or 5ghz wireless signals. Makes no difference really if all you got is a 5mbps internet plan. Even if you had a 1gbps internet, games don't need that much, it makes no difference.

Nope it actually is a 60Ghz wifi spec and honestly given the information about it we wouldn't know until it is developed a bit further and more information about it is released. It is supposed to provide support multi Gigabit speeds but we wouldn't know about the ping which is a larger issue for games than the actual speed of data being sent in a lot of cases.

oh i only have 3mbps ;( wish i had optical in my area. Ive heard of fiber and ti2 or something that has a t in it which is really fast but only for buisness as it cost 2 to 3k. So ghz is stopped by paper(much less a thick wall.)

More spectrum so more bandwidth, though.

And the lightspeed delay to your router is tens of nanoseconds; it's negotiation that takes time.

Put a cable to the middle of the ceiling in every room, and put a WAP in every room. Same way we overcome the fact that light gets stopped by walls.

WAP = Wireless Access Point. Basically the wireless bit of a wireless router.

I'm serious. I doubt they are going to hit consumers any time soon; probably only industrial at first.

Yeah. This tech is a decade or two away from consumers, I would imagine.

The other option is to have a couple of 60GHz WAPs in really high usage areas, and 5.8GHz covering the rest.
