Faster RAM will give you better performance as long as the timings are low. But the difference is a couple frames at most in games. Doubling RAM capacity won't increase performance but will allow you to have more programs open.

I will be upgrading my CPU to a 3570k soon.

Upgrading the speed of my RAM won't provide a tangible benefit for games like Battlefield 4 for example?
I get sub-standard performance due to my i3 currently but I thought the RAM also needed improvement.
