the one that says dvi is dvi if it has hdmi get that carrys sound and better res. I think dvi is 2560x1440p while hdmi is 4096x2048 @ 30fps

Sorry, I corrected a typo. One is DVI VGA and the other is just DVI.
I am connecting an Asus VG248QE (1920x1080 144Hz) monitor to it. The monitor came with a DVI minus cable, so I guess it fits in both the cross and minus ports?

It doesn't matter. The reason it says VGA is because DVI-I supports analog signal so you can bridge DVI-I to VGA connection. DVI-D does not support analog signal so you cannot use VGA with it.

Sorry, didn't see your edit. Yes; DVI-D cable works in both DVI-D and DVI-I.

As said above, use either one.

The VGA / DVI one just has the ability to use a passive DVI-I -> VGA adapter for older screens or projectors that use VGA.

Lol, yeah the cross port had a little metal thing inside it preventing the insertion on the minus plug! All good. Thanks.
