Disk drive not reading blank disks whereas disks with data are working fine!!!!

My Disk drive is not reading blank disks but the disks with data is working fine! I've tried updating the firmware but with no luck! I've only tried DVD and the blank one is not at all recognized by the computer on clicking the disk drive the message pops-up "please insert a disk into drive :E" even when there's a disk already, can anybody please help me? and i'm using windows 7 as well this problem started after i upgraded to windows 7 from XP and i don't remember the last time i burnt a disk! i want to burn a disk as soon as possible so please help me out!!!

It reads DVD's but doesn't read the blank one's and about cd's i've no idea coz i havn't tried it yet!!!
And coz it doesn't read blank DVD's so i cannot write to them!!!

Please note that till some days back i had used it to make a lot of Disks and that too successfully!!! using many softwares including NERO!!!!
