Audio No Longer Plays

I was watching videos online, but for some reason they stopped playing sound- completely out of the blue. I opened the speaker-icon in the tray to have a look, and the "Windows Audio Service" crashed and continued to do so every time it was opened. Windows Media Player also stopped working.

I re-booted in the hopes it would fix itself, and although Media Player works again and the volume mixer no longer crashes, there's still no sound. The mixer no longer shows any audio-outputs. I've checked the speakers' connections, and tried using the front-jack instead. They still show up in the audio-devices playback panel, but if I try to test them I get "Error: Failed to play test tone".

It still appears in the device manager (as High Definition Audio Device) and there's no red-exclamation mark saying anything's wrong. Windows says I have the latest drivers, and the troubleshooter's pretty much useless.

Any ideas? :??: Help would be much appreciated, thanks.

try uninstalling the audio driver from the device manager and then reinstalling it again from the manufacturer's website

That, uh... That actually worked. I feel silly now. Thanks for the answer, buddy. I have no idea how it even broke in the first place.
