Hi!

I have a "gaming laptop" (this term seems like bs to me, but oh well), core i7, 8GB RAM, all the bells and whistles. However, I want to build a desktop because I don't want to haul my laptop every week back home for the weekend.

My idea was to build a desktop which would, as of now, run as a mix of a gaming rig and a home-server (gaming rig for the weekend, home-server for the rest of the week), which would later be solely used as a home server when I get a new home and decide to get a dedicated gaming rig. Right now, I've decided on a few things I require:

    Core i5 (quad core)
    VT-X
    VT-D
    EPT
Minimum 4 sata ports (for when I use it as a full-time server)
    GTX750TI
    Xeon-support
    32GB Max RAM

As you can imagine, the server will be running VMs all the time it is being used as such (because I'm a nerd, lol). I tried to make a compromise between good gaming and virtualization performance and cost, hence the i5. The idea is to use it like this until I get a new PC, and then keep it like this (running as a full-time server) until I require more power, at which time I would buy a Xeon.

I made a quick search through PCPartPicker, and found the following parts which suited my needs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4460 (what is it's power consumption by the way?)
RAM: 8GB Corsair 1333MHZ RAM (just for starters is enough, will buy more if needed for the VMs)
    M/B: Asrock B85 Pro4
    GPU: Asus GTX750 Ti OC

As for case, PSU and hard drives, those I have covered (Old ATX case, 80+ Gold 600W PSU, WD RED and Black and a couple SSDs). Also, no need for networking hardware, also have that covered. Just really need opinions on M/B and CPU.

What do you think of this setup? If you want to suggest other parts, please keep the total up to €500/£400. Also, how good is the stock intel cooler for gaming? (let's keep in mind that I don't like to crank the graphics to the max, 1080p+high textures is the max I would use)

Best regards

Jonythunder
