I have a gtx 650,an e8400 and 6gb ddr2 ram.
I have a 5:4 17" monitor and now I am going to buy a second monitor 1080p 24".
Is 1gb VRAM enough for playing games on one monitor and surfing the web on the other one?
The games I play are cs:go and dota mainly.
I play all the others on my lovely ps4

Yes, his actual graphic card is enough for what he ask. He will be playing other games on his PS4 so why would we suggest him to spend money for something he doesn't need ? we are not trying to make profit, we are trying to help him ! So keep your system just the way it is and everything will work just fine. If you are experiencing lag due to your card being overburden, then just buy one cheap card like an AMD R7 260X at 120 $ and you are good for games like dota 2, league of legends, counter strike, and world of warcraft.

this card can even play BF4 at medium quality at 60+ fps read this article http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r7-260-review,3736-3.html

1 Gb is enough for playing in 1080P High setting with 4XMSAA. Vram usage will depend of how many pixels is needed to be rendered while gaming. So playing with Anti-Aliasing activated will use more Vram than playing without. Check this article of Tom's http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/graphics-card-myths,3694-5.html

They play Skyrim in 1080P on windows 7 x64 with Aero off (windows normally automatically shut aero off when vram is fully loaded) at 4XMSAA and it take 970 MB of Vram memory while 8XMSAA takes 1130 MB.

So you should be good for a while with 1 GB as long as you dont try to play in 4K !

yeah but the res kind of double with 2 monitors so for the gpu its like 2k and extra vram like 3gb is very good for that display. I have heard of skyrim with all mods and all settings maxed use more than 2gb vram

Not at all if you read this article : windows without aero uses 99 MB in 1080P and since his second monitor is lower than 1080p, he will never uses more than 100 MB for browsing on the internet on his second monitor.

but inst he playing games on both. He might be tempted and might use more vram. Also game like bf4 can use 3gb for all ultra

Thank you Pierrerock for clearing some of it up.

OP is playing games on ONE monitor, while browsing on the second. The only thing they would need is enough CPU power to hold the game and the browser at the same time, which in this case, probably so.

Aero uses just about 100MB MAX of Vram, OP does not need an upgraded GPU. They are completely fine with their current setup.
