Hi,

The speedstepping of my 4670k is really erratic and bouncy.
While the system is idling the multiplier goes from 8x to 12x to 38x then back to 8x then to 24x then 12x and then 38x, all in the course of 6-7 seconds of idling.

Is it supposed to be that erratic? Is there any way to make it smoother and not so jumpy?

Just for info, the 4670k not overlocked, its watercooled, the pump and fan RPM are stable and the temp is hovering around 35 Celsius with brand new(still not broken in) thermal paste.

it's supposed to be erratic as your CPU load constantly changes

as long as you don't notice any stutter, it's fine

I understand, but is it supposed to be this erratic when it shouldn't be doing anything?
I've closed every single background app I can find and just staring at the desktop and Aida64 watching the multiplier go between the entire range from 8x to 34x and back again like once a second.

Some weird test results.
Balanced Power setting - CPU multiplier and clock bounce up and down like mad at idle.

High Performance setting - CPU Mult/Clock is stable at 38x BUT , CPU voltage keeps going up and down without altering cpu clock.

Power Saver setting - Its stable at 8x and then increases during higher load as it should be working.

Is there any BIOS setting i need to fix or?

nahh windows is like that with the different power saving modes

even when there is nothing, there is something in background using CPU (go to resource manager)
