Are you saying that the other monitor only had DVI or stating that the card only has a DVI and HDMI left? If you mean the monitor has DVI, then yes, get a DVI to DVI cable. If the other monitor has a vga, they make DVI to VGA adapters really cheap like this.

The monitor that isn't getting any signal through (my second monitor) is connected to graphics card via a dvi to vga adapter, and attached to that is a vga to dvi cable. This doesn't work, so if I use dvi to dvi cable instead will it work?

Sorry, it took me a second to figure out all of the adapting going on. I don't think that adapting one way and then back would cause a problem, but it might. Did you set up the 2nd display in CCC or Nvidia control panel?

I tried to set it up in ccc? But it didn't detect it at all. only monitor connected via vga to vga showed up.

Then I'd say the multiple adapters is the only thing that could be causing the issue.
