LCD Monitor Problem: flickering back to a retained image multiple times a second, even with no input

I have a Viewsonic VX2270 LCD monitor that's about half a year old. During normal use, the entire image began flickering many times a second. It is flickering back to a screencap of Chrome in use and i can just read a website url that I was on just before the problem appeared. The image appears to only be on every other pixel? It isn't a complete image and has thin clearly visible vertical lines uniformly across the image.

This afterimage persists even in the "no signal" warning that appears when i unplug the monitor.

I have tried leaving the monitor unplugged for about 10 minutes, have changed my display resolution and update Hz in software, and have changed a few monitor settings with no results.

I would appreciate any help

Sounds defective to me, if it's under warranty I'd simply RMA it

So it ended up fading after a couple hours of being plugged in, so solved I guess. Couldn't say what was wrong with it though.

Very odd... if it happens again I'd definitely contact the manufacturer about an RMA
