Opinion on CPU coolers

Hi everybody,

Need some help deciding on what cooler to get to chill my CPU. I sold my gaming rig and built something just to last me 12 months. I've currently got an old i5 760 overclocked to 4ghz@1.28v and my old Xigmatek Loki does ok keeping temps on prime95 at 73 degrees max. I'd like to keep the temps lower and at the same time, get a cooler that will suit me in 12 months when I upgrade to what ever is the newest chipset and then overclock.

I've looked at the usual coolers, Phanteks, Noctua, Corsair AIO's but my budget isn't all that good right now, but overclocking and building rigs is becoming an addiction!

I have got my grubby mits on a used Phantom 410 and I was looking at the Phantek PH-14PE but opinion is split on whether it will fit (Cooler height 171mm, case max 170mm) plus its a touch over my £50 budget. I'm not a fan of the Noctuas colour scheme and im fussy about things like that lol.

Has anyone used/tried any of the following?

Deepcool Lucifer - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-005-DC&groupid=701&catid=2330&subcat=2742

Raijintek Nemesis - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-008-RT&groupid=701&catid=2330&subcat=2742

Alpenfohn K2 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-020-AL&tool=3

Or does anyone have any other suggestions? Do I need a 140mm cooler or would something like a Phantek PH-12DX do well for now and the future?

I could get a factory reconditioned H100i but in my old rig I had an H80 and on full speed it was really noisy.

Any help would be appreciated as I've spent the last week couple of weeks researching and can't decide!

Thanks in advance

Well, my advice would have been the Noctua NH-U12S but apparently you don't like the fan color.

It's hard to help you though since you listed THREE completely different color schemes for fans:
1) blue/black
2) black
3) red/white

I'm not sold on liquid coolers as they have a few issues, such as reducing air flow around the CPU voltage regulares, pump noise/failure and often being NOISIER than a cheaper Noctua cooler.

Future PC:
The newer Intel CPU's are (Devil's Canyon refresh) are easier to cool and since Intel has been getting more efficient and noting their heat issues as well future Intel CPU's should be very easy to cool even when overclocked with a half decent air cooler.

True I did list three different colours but the Lucifer I'd accept the colour due to the low price, black pretty much goes with any colour scheme and the red/white matches my rig. If I could get the red/white Phanteks PH-14PE to fit and at a good price i'd snap it up. Is there much difference between the Noctua NH-U12S and the Phanteks PH-12DX? I can get a Phantek 12DX for just over £30. My other issue is that the Lucifer only comes with one fan and I cannot find another fan to match to make a push/pull config if I decided too.

If I got the Lucifer, what fans would be good to change to if I couldn't find a matching fan and wanted a push/pull config later on? Im guessing ones with high SP but they mostly appear to be 120mm fans.

Ok bit the bullet and got the Lucifer although rather than have it delivered, im up by the shop for a few days so bought it there. Quick question if anyone knows, is the thermal paste that comes with Deepcool Lucifer any good? Ive got some Thermalright Chillfactor III at home too so wanted to know what to go for.

Ok the Lucifer dropped my temps by about 8-9 degrees per core on prime95 blend so pretty impressed. Tried both the Deepcool stock paste and my Thermalright Chillfactor 3 and found the stock paste performed a couple of degrees better if anyone is interested.
