Hello,

I am pretty confused an would like some help fixing an issue with my computer.

Everything was running normally with my computer, I was playing games and watching videos. Then I didn't do anything on it for about 10 minutes and decided to load CIV 5 up for the first time in a while. All was fine and just as it was about to create a new game my computer instantly shut off, no bluescreen etc, just 100 - 0 in half a second.

I tried to turn it back on but nothing would happen, so I opened up the case and thought maybe the PSU had died. However I saw that all the lights of the motherboard were on and so were the lights on the keyboard and mouse. I googled around for a bit and someone had described a similar problem and they found out it was their GPU causing the issue.

So I removed the GPU and tried starting and it powered up perfectly, then put the GPU back in and connected both the 6+2 pins and the computer wouldn't power up again. However when I only connected one 6+2 pin it would power up but I couldn't get passed the "connect all cables to GPU" screen. I played around with it for a couple of minutes and just thought I would try connecting both 6+2 pins again and it powered up and worked fine for some reason.

I used the computer for about 1 hour and watched videos on it and ran GPU-Z and it all seemed normal. Then I opened CIV 5 again and at the exact same point, just before you can start using units etc, the computer turned off and wouldn't turn back on.

Tried all the same stuff I did before but computer wouldn't power with one 6+2 pin or both 6+2 pins. Lights on motherboard etc just like before all on. If I leave both pins out of the GPU and just leave it connected to the motherboard everything powers up and the fans spin on the GPU but will not display. If I connect any pins to the GPU ,nothing powers up at the moment.

The computer currently works fine just using the integrated graphics on the motherboard without the GPU connected.

Is this an issue with the GPU or PSU? I don't have a spare GPU or PSU to test.

System Specs are: ASUS Z87-PRO
Intel i7 4770k (with stock fan)
EVGA GTX 770 Superclocked 2GB
Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz Vengeance
Seagate 2TB BARRACUDA 3.5" SATA-III Hard Drive
Coolermaster GX 650W PSU

Thank you for any help you can give, I really appreciate it.

Just tried switching the card to the other slots and it behaves the same way, fans on GPU will spin and computer will power up when the GPU is only connected to the motherboard and not directly to the PSU. When both the PSU 6+2 pins are attached the computer will not power up, however when only one 6+2 pin is attached the computer will occasionally power up.

This seems to have no consistency though as some times one pin will work, switch to the other pin which will not work, switch back to the first pin that worked before and it will not work, then switch back to the second pin that didn't work and it might work.

Thanks for any help

Sorry it took a while to respond.

I just got another working PSU today and tried it out and I ran into the exact same issue as before. So I guess there is an issue with the GPU?
