Insulating a HyperCooler 212E bracket - short circuiting

Hi there,

I have a Gigabyte Z87N WIFI and a HyperCooler 212E cooler, which at first sight appeared compatible. However the board is not brilliantly designed and there is a lot of contact between the metal on the underside of the board and the mounting bracket of the cooler. I discovered this when i blew the motherboard and CPU when the bracket shorted out, causing much pain.

I am reinstalling the rig, but this time I want to add an extra layer of insulation on the mount bracket, I am thinking of glueing something to the feet to keep it away from the board. Does anyone have any advice on this? Is it a stupid idea? I absolutely cannot afford for this bracket to blow up another board and CPU...

Thanks

Carefully wrap electrical insulating (self adhesive) tape around the bracket arms. In addition you may place a thin clear plastic sheet cut out in the shape of a template (so that it will not slip and slide) and fix it between the bracket and the motherboard. 'Blister pack' plastic will work well for this purpose. I am not in favor of glue since I do not know the dielectric values and resistance of various glues.
