Hi,

I just ordered the Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC from Newegg and it's on the way. I just want to know if my 650W NZXT HALE82 PSU will be good enough to support my GPU along with my i5 4670K. I also have a 1TB WD HDD and a Samsung 840 EVO SSD. I plan to overclock both my GPU and CPU a bit and I don't know if I will have enough power.

Thanks!

Hi Akhilcool
The Radeon R9-290 requires a psu with 31A on the +12v rail and a 550W psu minimum
Your 650W NZXT HALE82 PSU has 53A on the +12v rail and more than enough wattage for your card and overclocks

with that psu is hard to say but i think you won't be able to OC even one of them because you are on the limit with that PSU. GPU 550~W + CPU 80-90~W so you are on the line i guess.

Yes; you should be fine. The NZXT Hale82 650W power supply is a good power supply. It provides a total of 53A continuous current on the +12V rail. The GPU itself only needs a minimum of 23A. Even with everything else, you still have plenty of headroom left for overclocking.

Thanks for the reply! I guess I probably won't need to my PSU after all.

Interesting. Where are you getting that information from? The TDP for the R9 290 is 275W.
