I would say that in that price range, the R9 280X is the best way to be safe. I have the 770, which is in that range, but if you want to be safe for the furture, I would use the 280X because of the 3GB VRAM. for the CPU, I would say that an Intel i5 4690k would bet the best route. I chose the 8350 for my PC due to the fact that I wanted to have the extra cores just in case, but with intel, you have a great upgrade path for the future (plus, you have i7's as an upgrade option). If it isn't in your range, the 8350 will be more than fine, and if you overclock, it will overclock amazingly. I think that AMD may be adding another CPU to the FX line, so you may be able to upgrade in the future (but never count on what may happen).
I need to know your budget. Also, you can't make anything future proof because you never can tell what will be advancing in games, or what will happen with games in the future. Games make take use of things that are not even around now. Things change. I can recommend the best you can buy right now for your money, but I cant recommend something that is "future proof."
