Hi,

I know it's a simple and often asked question but all the similar topics I've found on the internet keep derailing into topics about mixing voltages or speeds.

I have 2x2GB ram installed in dual channel right now.
If I buy the exact same stick of ram from the store, just a bigger 2x4GB size and installt in the 2 free DIMM slots, should it run fine?

Or should i only match 2x2 with 2x2?

More about : running 2x2 2x4 ram type

Even another set of 2x2GB of the same exact model can be and often is problematic. It's harder for manufacturers to find 4 sticks that all play nice together, which is why a 4 stick set typically is more expensive than a 2 stick set, it's from the testing to make a set. If DRAM was as easy to mix as many would have you believe the manufacturers would simply sell 1 stick packages and let people buy as many sticks as they want/need.

Is there any program that I can use to test if they work well together after i install it?

Prime95 is a good stress test program ;)  If rig stays stable through Prime should be in good shape

Thank you a lot for the info!
I'm from Norway and we can return a product within 14 days of purchase, regardless of reason, even if you've used it.
I guess I'll buy a pair and test them, if they don't work well I'll return them.

It will be fine.

Your motherboard's manual will state acceptable RAM combinations, and this will be listed as one of them.
