I upgraded my current cpu to the amd 9590 and I have the Gigabyte 990fx UD7 rev 1 mother board. My cpu is only reading at 4.0 GHz, not the 4.7 GHz it is supposed to. Is there a way of fixing this?
Gigabyte kind of did something nasty to the old rev 1 owners, they don't have nor plan on providing any updates to support that processor for your board, which is kind of pointless since the board has 220 processor support. So if you look around on other forums only the newest rev will support it and will provide updates that will allow you to go over that 4.0ghz. If you are up to buying a new board I would get http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-sabertooth990fxr20 best board that you can get for any fx processor, I have the older 8350 in my work rig and I overclocked it to 5.1 with this amazing board.
I'm just guessing, but it might be that the CPU is clocked to 4.0 because it's pretty much an overclocked FX-8350, which is the most powerful CPU supported by the motherboard. The 8350 also happens to be clocked at 4.0.
I just noticed that the same mother board but rev 3 supports the 9590. Are there plans for any bios updates that anyone knows for rev 1 of the mother board to accept the 9590? Will running the cpu at a lower clock rate hurt anything into it gets supported or into I buy another mother board that supports it?
Well the only issue that you'll probably have is the lower performance since the clockspeed is lower, so as long as that doesn't bother you, you probably don't have to worry about it.
