Most graphics card fans blow the air TOWARDS the card itself so it would wash out the sides into the case and be removed by the CASE FANS (should have an INTAKE at the front and EXHAUST at top/rear).

SOME of the hot air will come out of the exhaust at the rear of the card.

There are BLOWER style cards that exhaust most of the air out the card exhaust but they are noisier and don't work well in the better (hotter) cards.

Graphic's cards have fans that suck air in from the case and blow it over the heatsink of the gpu to cool it down. You want to keep cool air blowing towards your card's fans to keep temperatures as low as possible.

Other:

You may wish to consider the GTX750Ti instead. It is almost exactly the same performance as the HD7850, runs much cooler and quieter. It's about a 6% difference for stock models but the Asus 750Ti can overclock higher than the HD7850 so it's as good or better (let's just say equal).

The HD7850 is also more expensive if comparing similar quality so I can't think of a good reason to get one unless you get a great deal.

The ASUS version is $130 after $20 MIR and is an incredible value:

*The GTX750Ti is an NVidia card so you have a few features AMD does not have such as SHADOWPLAY which can record/stream with minimal impact due to the NVENC hardware encoder.
