thermal throttling causing frame drops?

I have looked into this a bit and basically want to know if I have what sounds like a thermal throttling issue and if anyone would know a way some type of fix or if it requires me to do a bit of RMAing in terms of motherboard.
I recently upgraded the majority of my rig. With a new fx 8350, crossfire HD 7870s and asrock extreme 4 with the aim to getting far better fps in battlefield 4.

While playing bf4 I find I can play on ultra with fine fps of about 100 or so but then I start getting big time frame drops where it suffers at about 15-20fps then about 10-15 seconds later (usually when I've died because of the low frames) they go back up again to what they were. I run both core temps and hw monitor so to avoid false readings and my CPU temp idle once the game has been closed for 30 mins is averaging out at about 38c which seems rather high especially with an aftermarket cooler and side panel on or off. Then in game I'm getting temps of 55c soon creeping to 65c or there abouts.

Thermal throttling wise this is what I tried and have read about so far.
1. Reseating my CPU cooler at different directions for better air flow (artic freezer 12 each time in new paste)
2. Disabling bios options like the cool n' quiet and a couple others I can't remember the name of off the top of my head.
3. installed the latest available bios

I have read a number of reasons behind this issue that sway my thinking towards it possibly being mobo/vrm based. I know the fx8350 isn't actually listed on the support list of the extreme 4 which I wished I'd looked into before buying it due my haste of wanting to crossfire my 7870s together.
So the vrm could be overheating maybe? As I know the processor is known to pull more power than its said 125w.
Lastly could it be me needing a board with a chipset that will actually allow full optimal support of my fx8350?

PC specs that relate
Fx 8350
Asrock 970 extreme 4
Artic freezer 12

If you're running a unsupported CPU, then there's no telling what issues you could have. get a supported CPU and see if the issue goes away.

it supports 125W pile driver CPUs and it obviously works. You CPU temps are simply way to high. Get better cooling or turn down the voltage
