I have installed a new SSD as the solo drive in a hp laptop. The old drive was no longer serviceable. How do I format the new SSD?

Solution
Since it is the solo drive in your system, you will simply be reinstalling Windows so as said it will format for you.

When done, you may need to install some drivers from the laptop support site and possibly for your GPU from NVidia/AMD/Intel as applicable.

If your copy of Windows is from the laptop manufacturer it's possible you may only be able to use the drivers from the laptop support site. I had this issue, but then got Windows 8 on my own for my dad's laptop and used the NVidia drivers direct from NVidia with no major issues.

My MEDIA CARD slot didn't work however, so I went to the laptop site and tried the VISTA driver (was no later driver) and it worked fine.

Windows 8.1 probably has every driver you need except the latest...
Hi Trevor R ,
if you are going to install windows on it , you can format as part of the windows installation process ,
if you are adding the ssd as another drive then you can right click my computer, manage, disk management
this will show up every drive on your system , select the ssd by right clicking on it and format/ntfs
