Resolution problems with Hanns G monitor

Greetings. Just got a new 24" monitor, the Hanns-G HE245DPB 23.6" model. When I first connected it, via VGA port on my HP Envy m6-1205dx laptop (HDMI port is being used to output to my big screen tv), it was showing the resolution at 1920 x 1080. I had to reboot for something and it changed to 1600 x 1200 and now there is no option for the 1080 resolution in display settings. I even went ahead and installed the stupid catalyst manager and AMD drivers, which I had previously removed for unrelated reasons, thinking that might be the issue but there is still no 1080 option. Also, under monitors it keeps defaulting to non-pnp monitor and I can't find any monitor specific drivers for this monitor anywhere in the windows settings or through internet searches. Even the Hanns G website offers nothing. This is supposed to be natively set to 1920 x 1080 and initially it was, so does anybody have any ideas as to why this resolution is not available. There's like fifteen different possible resolution choices in both Catalyst control center and the regular desktop resolution panel but not the correct one. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Update: If I change the max resolution option in vga properties in catalyst control center and then go to desktop properties in desktop manager in catalyst, it shows an option for 1920 x 1080 but when I select it and then hit apply, the screen flickers once or twice, the option disappears and reverts back to 1600 x 1200. WTF? Also, in both windows and catalyst monitor information it reports back as an unidentified display and regardless of attempts to automatically update driver and setting monitor as PNP it makes no difference. Is this maybe due to using the VGA input. I've used VGA inputs on high resolution monitors before and never had any trouble. Just wondering if I use the DVI input on the monitor with an adapter for the VGA cable if this problem will resolve. I doubt it but am still waiting for some feedback on this from somebody.

Problem solved, ehem, no thanks to you guys. Just kidding. I had to disable the EDID in Catalyst and then it accepted the 1920 x 1080 setting. Still no monitor information though and since I believe this affects frequency settings (Hz) I'd still like to know what's up with that and if there is an .inf or driver somewhere that will tell windows what this monitor is.

Update: For future reference, if anybody else encounters this issue, a bad VGA cable will cause any or all of the above problems. I changed out the cable and now the resolution is right plus the EDID information is present. Funny thing is it worked even with the bad cable, but there was something about it that it didn't like.
