So what i would like to achieve is to attach a spare external hard-drive to my network so i can use it as a mini-cloud for my home. i am currently using the virgin media super hub 2, however this doesn't have any usb ports. I do have an EE bright box which has a usb port. I was wondering if there is a way to connect the hard-drive to the EE box and the EE box to the Virgin box and connect it to my network that way?

Solution
If the EE box allows, disable everything on it that does any form of router operating, DHCP, UPNP, FIREWALL, NTP etc etc.

Assign a static IP to EE LAN IP that is in the Superduds IP range.

Connect the pair via LAN ports, ignore WAN port on the EE.

Now if the EE behaves, it will act as a switch, but you can still use the usb ports and use the EE wifi to create additional access points.

Personally, put the Superdud in modem mode, buy and connect up an Asus AC series router and Merlins firmware and enjoy the USB's and far superior performance, makes my 152mbps connection fly at 156mbps down, 13mbps up and wifi half way down the street with my 3rd party ariels :D

Solution
To disable the EE features, login to the web admin page.

The Superduds IP range is the 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x but outside the range that you have setup via DHCP.

I normally have DHCP setup from 20 to 40, so I can setup static numbers from 9 to 19 for printers etc.
