I have a HP dc6700 small factor with XP on the SATA Hard drive. SATA 0.
I installed a SSD SATA with LinuxMint13 and plugged it into the second SATA connector. SATA1.
In devices The SSD is present nex to the Harddrive and it's in well working order. No problems and the latest drivers installed. Non the less it's not visible in Exlporer.
In the bios the SSD is also present in the configuration list but in the boot list I can see DVD USB ect and also the Harddrive but with a sub devision SATA0 and SATA1. There is no way I can change the boot order to the SSD. So if I want to boot from the SSD I have to open my computer and manually connect the SSD to the SATA0 (Blue connector) and Harddrive to SATA1 (white connector) Lunix will run without a problem but there is no way I can boot from the Harddrive in order to use XP again. There is software on the disk I need to use now and then.
At first I thought it was a Linux related problem but now I'm not so sure. In the manual they speak of 2 SATA connectors.SATA0 and SATA1 but there is no indication that the only one you can boot from is SATA0.
Somebody has a clue?
Regards Henk.

Put the Linux SSD on SATA0 and XP on SATA1. Then run 'sudo update-grub' from the command-line, which should force it to detect all other OSs in the system and throw up a GRUB boot menu on startup.

I've got a feeling that if you do that the XP won't boot because it will see the drive numbers as having changed. But it can't do any harm to try and see what happens.

Thanks for your answer SS. I had to fidle around a few times. Iḿ not used to the linux way but it works like you discribed it.
So on startup I get the boot menu from Linux were I can select Window XP. That is what I wanted.
