I just built my first gaming rig and i need a new monitor now. So i am wondering now whether a 5ms response time will be fine FOR ME? I search the web but there are too many different opinions about the good respose time and i get confused. To make it simple, before this i game on laptops, the Dell Inspiron 15R and currently on the Lenovo y510p and the latter is running an IPS display. I am very happy with the laptops display (no ghosting)actually but couldnt figure out the respose time. So will 5ms be adequate for me or should i go 1ms? I have i5 4590 and r9 290.

if your not a serious gamer than 5ms would be fine. usually TN panels (panels with lower color quality vs IPS) have slower response times like 2ms compared to similarly priced IPS monitors which have like 5ms.

how much are you willing to spend?

I am willing to spend around $160-170. I don't live in the US but i've got some monitors to choose from the local shop like the Phillips 224E5QSB(on my mind). So 5 ms will be fine, because I play For fun most of the time, rarely online. Any monitor you will recommend at that price range?

5ms is a great choice, since there isn't much diffrence, only if we speak about hertz - like 60hz 120hz or even 144hz

Well far as i've seen i havent had any problems :) . but it's all up to you. I would say care more about Hertz if you want true experinece - for gaming mostly tho :) . I think you could go watch some videos and reviews of the monitor then see what you thing :) .
