Hi,

I am planning to get a RAM for my build but am a little bit confused. my processor only supports DDR3-1333/1600 and the motherboard am planning to get supports more than that:

DDR3 3000(OC)/2800(OC)/2600(OC)/2200(OC)/2133(OC)/1866(OC)/1600/1333

So my question is:

Am I going to get any benefit if I select a RAM with a higher speed since my processor wont support more than 1600 ?

What does OC mean? is it Overclocked Form factor ? what is the different between a speed marked as an OC and a speed without an OC ?

Can I Overclock a RAM that is not marked as (OC) say for example I decided to go with
1600 RAM.. can I Overclock it ?

Thanks

Anything over the standard cpu spec is Overclcoked. These days its done by inserting the ram and going into bios and enabling XMP - Extreme Memory Profile. That automatically gets the ram up to its rated speed. In your case - anywhere up to 3000MHz.

So you can buy ram up to 3000MHz and have it run at that. But 3000MHz ram costs about 5 times as much as 1600MHz ram. So there's an optimum price/performance. These days its somewhere between 1866 and 2133. 1866 ram costs only a few dollars more than 1600 ram now. So that's what I recommend.
