I have a toshiba 1tb external hard drive. I had it for a little over a year in a half. It started being unable to read until I moved the wire or plugged it into the the device with pressure (the micro end of the 3.0 usb was loose). It recently just stopped being recognized all together but still turns on. I bought a new usb cable for it and tried others but doesn't read. Any suggestions? Pleae and Thank You.

Solution
Sounds like the USB port is loose or broken.

Take the drive out and try it in a different external enclosure, or internally in a desktop.

I don't mean to be dense, but how do you get it out of the enclosure? There doesn't seem to be a way to access it.

There IS a seam. Some cases have screws. Sometimes the screws are under the glued on rubber feet.
Sometimes the two halves just snap together, and you kind of have to break it a little to get it apart.

But the drive went in...it can come out.
