hi guys, completed my first build with the asrock 990fx extreme 3 and when im trying to insert the cd that came with the motherboard is goes into nero boot loaded and asks "generate serial ata driver diskette [y/n] i push y and it says no supported drive found; floppy 1.44m and usb drive! reboot system now.

tried putting windows 7 disc in and just come up with " reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media device and press key.

anybody know how to get round this? thanks,

You dont need the cd with motherboard at this point, they contain drivers, and they are installed once you install windows. Your cd drive is not set as default boot device, thats why you get reboot and select... error. You can set this in bios by quickly pressing del key after turning the pc on or after the reset, and then set the boot device priority accordingly. Even easier way is to quickly keep pressing f12 after turning the pc on, and you will get to choose which device you wish to boot from. Put the windows cd in cd rom, and select it from this menu. Then you will get to windows setup and you can install windows to your hard drive.

1) Set your optical drive as your first boot device via the BIOS; and
2) Properly set up your disk drive (SATA or AHCI) in the BIOS.

You are being prompted to create an AMD SATA (AHCI) driver disk (for thumb-drive or CD) that may be used during the Windows installation process. Generally, if you wish to take advantage of certain advanced AHCI functions (port multiplication, hot-swapping ... etc) you must install the AMD SATA.inf driver file prior to the installation of Windows (you have this opportunity at the first Windows install window).

If you have no interest in these functions (or do not know what they are) you may simply install Windows and it will add a generic MS AHCI driver.

hi guys i put my usb disk drive to boot 1st and still cant get windows to install its still asking for reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media device and press key, seems to not be detecting the windows disk :/

Maybe it just cant read this specific one. Have seen it many times. Also, some drives are not always able to be booted from some motherboards. The same applies to usb sticks. I would say that you are pretty much helpless at this point until you get the sata drive. Or you can borrow one just to install windows. Or you can get a large usb stick and prepare windows installation on it on a different computer, and then use this stick to install.
