With a budget of around $1700 to $1800 CAD, should I buy a gaming laptop or gaming desktop?

I am concerned that with the budget the gaming laptop would not be very good. Is the GeForce 880M good in benchmarks? I am waiting for the GTX 880 for the desktop. I hope the price of those will be around $600 to $700 CAD. I am looking to get this built by Canada Computers next year or the year after. Since I might be getting an Xbox One next year so the build may have to wait until I save up more money. I already have a PS4 so I can play those games meanwhile.

It depends on your needs. You will ALWAYS get more for the cash building a desktop than purchasing a laptop, but the laptop gives the freedom of taking it wherever you want (Unless you make a itx build that is more portable). If you already have a PS4 its kinda pointless IMO to get a xbone.

The main reason I want to get an Xbox One is because of the exclusives. I really enjoyed playing Gears of War and Halo. I am also waiting for a sequel for Lost Odyssey if that's ever happening. I really hope Mistwalker makes it. Ya I am getting a desktop built by NCIX or Canada Computers. Depends on which one has better price. Both locations are pretty close by where I live so it's good. I am planning to spend around $2000 CAD max on my desktop. Probably going to get it end of 2015 or beginning of 2016. Thank you so far for your answers.

I am pretty firm on getting an Xbox One since I really enjoyed MS' exclusives. I owned an Xbox 360 and PS3 last gen so I would like to have them both this gen, too. Ya 2016 sounds good since my gaming PC will be light years ahead of the consoles judging from the fact that I spent 5 times more on it. By that time Sony and Microsoft are well into the development of the PS5 and Xbox Two and they will probably be released around 2018-2020.

Thanks. Do you know if I can bring this parts list to NCIX or Canada Computers and see if they have all the parts in stock and build it for me? I am not sure if I need to use their website to pick parts and the prices won't be as cheap as newegg for sure. I don't know how to build computers myself so my only option is to go to those two stores and ask if they can build it for me. This is definitely a beast.

Thanks. But I am thinking that since I am gaming primarily in 1080p, do I need such a powerful GPU like the 780ti? I am thinking more on the lines of a GTX 880 or even the 780. That would fit the budget better.
I am either going to get an xbox one and a gaming laptop that costs around $1800 to $2000 or just a really powerful desktop that is slightly over $2000. I haven't decided. If Gears of War is going to PS4, then there's no point in getting xbox one now.
