Use WD external hdd as internal

Hi, I am trying to use my 3TB WD green external as an internal drive as I am running out of room on my main hdd. Unit works fine when plugged in through usb, but when I connect it via sata it does not show up on my bios or in my computer. My 500 gb external is connected via sata and I have no problems using it as an internal. Any ideas as to why the 500gb works inside and the 3tb does not? They are both WD Green drives

thanks for the response, did some research and my mobo does not support 3tb hdd. no big deal as I am upgrading next month.
