Hi guys. Yes I'm a newbie but I'm hoping you will help. I have a 160 GB 2.5" hard drive that came out of an older laptop and was originally put into a Ritmo EHD case with an external power supply (5V). I thnk it came out of a notebook and the OS was Win 98 or Vista. The power lead has been lost and the case only has 5V written on it by the user so I don't know what the amps are. I put the HD into a Connectland EHD case that doesn't use an external power supply just a USB 3 cable.
My laptop runs on Win 7. When I plugged in the EHD with the USB cable my laptop only reads it as a drive with Removeable disc.If I tried to read or format it said "Place disc into Drive E".
In Properties it read all the values as 0 e.g. disc space, used space etc. However, in Control Panel it does read as a disc drive - the operable word being drive I thought.
I have done much searching on the net and have found heaps of info and some answers though none specific from needing an external power supply to creating partitions. The drive has LOTS of info I want so if I can find a fix it would be great.
