Hi,

I'm trying to decide between a 280X or a 770, and was wanting a little advice. I have read some horror stories relating to the 280X, but there are a few issues with the 770 as well. I was wondering which is the best (in terms of reliability, as they are both similar on the specification front).

Oh, and please, no brand bickering. I don't care whether my card comes from Nvidea, AMD or ACME if I'm frank (though if it did come from ACME it'd probably be beset with reliability issues which is what I am trying to avoid!). Any shred of brand loyalty from me towards AMD disappeared when their former Marketing director left (who was also a family friend).

I have a 280x, even overclocked it, never had any problems.

Each card has its advantages and disadvantages, 280x has mantle and 3gb vram as opposed to 2gb, 770 has GeForce experience and PhysX. I'd say go for whichever is cheapest, but (especially with the 280x) make sure you get a good cooling system on the card, something like Gigabyte's windofrce cooler, Sapphires Dual-X cooling or ASUS's Direct CU II, or if you're a little more adventurous, ASUS's rog matrix card or Sapphires Toxic/Vapor-X

depending on the 770 though you could almost stretch to a basic 290(look for 3rd party cooling solution!) From a reliability standpoint though the 770s run nice, cool, and fast, and historically speaking nVidia drivers are more stable.
