I recently had to help repair my friends ibm x series server. It had a faulty hard disk(I believe), because the fault indicator(!) amber led was lit and also in the bios when I try to change the hard disk priorities, sometimes it used to show hdd 2 and 3 and sometimes it wont, in the list of hdd. So I have opened the cabinet and cleaned everything and set them back as they were, removed the CMOS for sometime and then set it back. Now when I boot it, at the start it would show the memory passed value to be 52......(this count is shown when hdd 2 and 3 are detected). But it wont go past that. I am unable to enter bios as well by pressing F1 as usual. I let it run for more than an hour but it wont go past that.

You should call IBM for service. It sounds like the system board might be failing.
