Hello.

I was wondering whether to get a 2GB R9 270 or a 4GB R9 270X. Both cards are MSI. There is a sale today at Overclockers UK and the 270 is £100 while the 270X is £125. Is the 270X worth the extra money? I can't find any benchmarks comparing the two cards.

Thanks.

Then pick the r9 270 and overclock it to r9 270x speeds, cheaper + just as useful.

you do realize that the extra ram is there for higher settings and higher resolutions right............ you can't post FPS charts and expect that that's all there is to performance. performance is many things. don't fall into this rut that others do.

I'm only buying the card to last me until the NVIDIA 800 series cards come out.

The tests were done at max or ultra settings.
It included resolutions as high as 5760 x 1080.
There was negligible difference 2gb vs 4gb vram.

re:800 series.
Nobody who knows can say anything about the 800 or whatever series.
No doubt there will be something new.
If it is the top performing card, you can be certain that it will command top premium dollar.

On lesser cards, it will have to compete with existing new and used inventory on a price/performance basis. It may garner more profits for nvidia if it can use cheaper 22nm technology. But, there will be no incentive to price it any lower than the competition.

If one has a need now, buy now.
If you wait for the next best thing, you will wait forever.

At the earliest. Plus the time for non-reference cards to come out. Plus the time for reviews to come out.

thanks but no thanks.............there's never enough information provided. they never say what the lowest frame rates are......... or how long the graphics spit and sputter when textures are off loaded......... 2gig vs 4gig.
