External HDD not acessible.

Hello guys. I've got a little problem here. My external HDD just went dead. My PC reads it, but says I have to format it. That's it. I don't want to lose my files on the HDD, but I don't want to use one of those expensive disk-recovery services. Any suggestions?

Use recovery software such as Recuva. There are many of them free online, although some of them require paying if you want full features. Usually not expensive. Whatever you do, do not format the drive or perform any write operations on it. At least if you want your data back.
