Hi guys,

I’m hoping if someone could be kind enough to advise me on the items i’ve chosen for my build and give comments on what i’ve listed below. My intention is to play RTS & FPS games with maxed out graphics. Please keep in mind that i’m new to this (8 years since my last desktop) so here goes:

Case: Thermaltake Level 10GT
MoBo: MSI Z97 Gaming 9 AC LGA1150
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K Processor
GPU: MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB GDDR5
Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB 2,400MHz (2x8GB)
Storage: WD Red NAS HD 2TB SATA 6GB/s 3.5” 64MB Intellipower
Intel SSD 335 Series 240GB, SATA 6Gb/s, 20nm, MLC
Cooling: Cooler Master V8 GTS CPU Air Cooler
Power: Thermaltake Toughpoer Grand 1050 Power Supply 8- PLUS Gold

Thank you in advance for your inputs.
With warm regards,

First off, what's your budget?

Criticism:

Unless you plan on streaming/recording/video editing, the i7 isn't needed. An i5 would do just fine. Nothing wrong with the i7 though if you want to stay with it.

Haswell refresh chips have come out and they're roughly the same price as the haswell chips, consider getting one of those.

Motherboard: If you're not going with a haswell refresh and you're not going to upgrade when broadwell comes out. The i7 4770k can go on a z87 motherboard.

RAM: you don't really need 16gb RAM if you're just gaming. 8gb is fine. There's also not much of a difference between ram speeds as far as I know. It doesn't change the fps inside games much. More or less negligible. 1600Mhz CAS9 RAM is good enough for...

GPU: With the money that you've put into this, saving on other parts can probably get you a r9 290x with a Tri-x cooler maybe.

Hard drive: Get a WD Blue or Black HDD.

Cooler: Your call. Minimum would be a 212 evo especially if you're overclocking.

PSU: 1050w psu is a bit overkill, even for a multi gpu set up on this system.

This PSU would do just as well though, and is much cheaper:

Hi Calnin,

I wanted to thank you for your comments on my message about making a new Buisson.

It took me a while to get back but today I have remade my choices as per the following:

Case: NZXT H440
MoBo: MSI Z97 Gaming 9 AC LGA1150
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K Processor
GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 780 TI 3GD5
Memory: G.Skill 16GB DDR3 2,400MHz (2x8GB)
Storage: WD Caviar Black 2TB SATA 6GB/s 3.5” 64MB + Intel SSD 530 Series 240GB, SATA 6Gb/s, 20nm, MLC
Cooling: NZXT Kraken X60 Closed System 280mm Liquid CPU Cooler
Power: NZXT Hale90 v2 1000W 80 PLUS Gold Fully Modular Power Supply

I certainly hope this was the right choice for a high-end build! Thank you again for your assistance.

With kind regards,

Dan

Build*, not Buisson :()

I forgot to mention that I placed an order on this already so any changes needed would have to be made within the next 48hours according to my local IT store...
