Same problem, different method of wording it: HP dv8010 upgrade to Win 7, 64bit, NO sound now. Is it BIOS? Is it embedded? Hwinfo shows ATI/AMD, embedded, without support. Does anyone have a workaround until one could save up for another laptop? This one was >2500 new, one might think it would have support for a few years, no? And I'm scared of BIOS, already bricked ASUS K50IJ updating BIOS after window message: update your BIOS and asked ASUS who gave me instructions. Ha ha. Now the CD seems to come on but the keyboard is not functioning Can I go back and reverse the process?

Where to start?

Right, you shouldn't upgrade the OS on any laptop if the laptop maker has no drivers for the version you want to upgrade to. That's the first thing you should have checked on the HP website.

I believe the DV8010 was launched with Windows XP pre-installed.
Windows 7 is not supported (no Windows 7 drivers have been released for that model).

Call HP and ask if they can supply you with re-install disc for the original Windows version.
