I have been looking into whether I should upgrade my PC to a completely new one since I built this computer at the middle to the end of 2010. Current specs are below

i7 950 @ 3.07GHz
gskill 12gb ram 1333
EVGA Gtx 580 1.5gb
AS Rock X58 extreme 3

I am thinking of upgrading to a i5 4690 and I don't really care about the "K" version because I don't overclock but I was wondering is that a good CPU for my new build? Any recommended/best motherboards for that CPU?

Thanks!

im no cpu expert but i believe that i5 would slow your computer down, since they have the same # of cores and the i5 and 1/2 the threads of the i7 and a smaller cache.

if anything i think your gpu would need an upgrade if you don't have an SSD you might wanna get...

if anything i think your gpu would need an upgrade if you don't have an SSD you might wanna get 1 of those or maybe invest in a RAID 0 (a lot of people are against raid but i personally support it and have 2 x ssd's to bring in 1 Gb/s read and write)

if your computers running slow then i recommend downloading and running ccleaner, update windows and running a virus scan with microsoft security essentials and also disabled all non wanted startup programs, this is achieved by clicking on the start (windows icon) and typing in msconfig then clicking on startup (i think).

I just posted those as my current specs. I am planning on building a completely new PC. I am just asking for advice on which is the best cpu.

Well we will have to wait some time, they are not even out for server owners yet, and still they wont be really that faster since the response time will go up.
