Seagate Barracuda is really durable HDD? Or WD is the more durable?

That question can't be answered because both HD and WD have made some very reliable drives and some rather crappy drives. What product lines are we talking about. The WB Black is decent performance drive and has a 5 year warranty.....On the other end of the scale you have the WD Blue which sits way down past.

If ya look over at storagereview.com database, you sill see that Seagate made the most reliable drive as well as the least reliable drive. The Raptor was well know for its speed for an inexpensive drive but had failure rates as high as 25%.

Even among model lines we see variations....the Seagate 7200.10 was a great drive ..... as was the 7200.12. However the 7200.11 had firmware and other issue. In addition one size drive in a model line can be great and the other problematic

Hi - mechanical spin-type hdd's are going to fail eventually. However, they can still outlast
your current system.

Best bet, spend a little more and get an enterprise model, either WD or Seagate. More $$
but more longevity.

We rarely know about the reliability of computer parts, because the ones listed above are out of production soon after they are sold. New products come on the market, and are (again) out of production soon after being sold to be tested.

Thanks a lot, the Barracuda.14 have the best rapport performance/price, but I have seen a report which it's mentionned only 75 percent of Seagate survive vs 95 percent for WD after 3 years

The available numbers for 3 TB, 2B and 1 TB are all there in the 3rd post. That's all the info I have. Whether things have gotten better or worse since 2011 I have no way of knowing as that's the only published data I have found'.
