About a month or two ago i had purchased a new system for myself. Recently and quite obviously ill need a new Heatsink/Fan as my CPU is running a bit hotter than i would like causing the shotty CPU fan to make some quite obnoxious noises resembling the sound made when as a child you'd stick a playing card in the spokes of your bike.

Given the fan sounds like its going to be dying here soon i wont really want to risk the CPU over it.

Now this is a school work and gaming rig so it does tend to be on at all times and does suffer a heavy load most of the time.

Games: La Noire, Supreme Comander;FA, GRID 1 and 2. Thief. WatchDogs
All pretty much on maximum graphics with ease.

So ill sorta summerize things for the lazy amung us:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Usage: Gaming
Load: Medium/Heavy
Reason for replacement: Running hot/Engine Sounding/Probable failure
Spending range: $50-$150
Brand Preference: None/Whatever has a reputable background
Overclock: Currently none/Would be interested in OC but nothing too extreme
Case: If the side needs to come off then so be it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current Rig Spec:

2x 24'' Monitor at 1920x1080
EVGA GeForce GTX 760 4GB 256bit
WD 1TB 7200 RPM Storage drive / Kingston 100GB SSD for OS only
G.Skill 4x8GB
AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0Ghz
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD
Thermaltake Overseer RX-I VN700M1W2N
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any help would be appreciated in finding this rig its replacement CPU Heatsink/fan. I am just not familiar enough with them to come up with an educated decision.

What sort of maintainence comes along with running a water cooler like that?

Why in your opinion is that the best air cooler?

no maintenance its already filled and sealed.

the dh14 is considered one of the best aircoolers of all times.

At that price i'd also choose the noctua air cooler. Keep in mind the motherboard needs good cooling so you better have excellent case cooling as that cpu+gpu dumps a lot of heat in your case.

If i was to branch into overclocking a bit, Which would be able to keep it the coolest? the air or water?

Whats the rough life span on a self concealed water system?

Emdea22, you mention residual heat in the case from GPU/CPU, Would you advise running side off? Or additional inner fans for circulation?

The playing card hitting the spokes sound is often the fan hitting the fan's power wires, so double-check to ensure that that is not the case in your system.

the 80i and dh14 about same cooling performance.

Wires have been checked and theres no fraying and no wires infront or anywhere near any fans as i have zip tied all my wires into dedicated spots away from harm.

I believe that sound may be due to a bearing loose in the fan or the fan being out of balance causing it to click the teeth of the heatsink as it only seems to do it at higher RPMS

the Water cooling block looks like it mounts awkwardly to the board. are we sure its compatible with my board?

Thanks, Much appreciated everyones contributions. Overnighting both the 80I and DH14 just to see which i prefer in terms of sound and ease of installation..
