I had my USB Seagate Momentus 500gb go unrecognizable for a over a year now. It shows up as RAW. But today I tried to use it again on my WIndows 8.1 laptop and it showed up RAW as usual in DIsk Management, but as soon as I opened up Recuva (disk recovery program) and the HDD got recognized by windows and opened up automatically in windows explorer, this is some kind of miracle I thought and it really was. Because when I tried to rescan disk drives in Disk Management again to see if the HDD is recognized by it, it AUTOMATICALLY STOPPED WORKING AGAIN and TURNED RAW again.

So the NTFS partition is there, its just not being read all the time, how is that possible? Windows also assigns it a drive letter, but as soon as I rescan in Disk Mgmt disk assigned letter disappears, and HDD becomes uninitialized.

Please let me know what is the possible problem here. I tried to redo same procedure with opening up REcuva again but it didnt work.

In this screenshot I also have 1 TB WesterDigital HDD that had a broken encasing. But the HDD in question is the DISK 2 (E:) 500GB

UPDATE

At firstI fixed the issue. Took it out of the enclosing and connected it through an external SATA to US adapter, and it worked fine.

After transfering some large files from the HDD that is not connected through SATA adapter, it is not unresponsive again, and whenever windows refreshes it, it gives "bad parameters" message. I replugged it back into the original USB circuitboard with an enclosure, and still get same problems, but it shows HDD as healthy in Disk Managment

This seems like a port problem, if the hdd is healthy?
