Folder opens in new window

Please can someone help me out here I'm getting so frustrated with this problem. Every time I click on something in explorer I get another window opened. I have the folder options set to the correct setting. That is, "open each folder in same window". If someone nice enough to take the time to provide me with a solution to this aggravation would please provide some STEP BY STEP instructions for this I would very much appreciate it.

Running the System File Checker has been known to fix that problem:

Open a command prompt window (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt)

Type SFC /SCANNOW

Press <Enter>

Also, if you've installed one of those third-party Windows Explorer replacements, uninstall it. They are often a source of such issues.

Ok I may have another problem... I just hit Start, typed "ipconfig" and then hit enter and I caught a very brief glimpse of a command prompt window and that was it. Just a flash. Any ideas on why that would happen?

You are running the command but it does not stay displayed. Go into the command prompt which will allow the information to remain on the screen. Start -> type CMD - > ipconfig

Ok I did the cmd, sfc/scannow which has completed but I am left with this message in the black cmd window.

"Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

C:\Windows\system32>"

So I honestly could be reading another language basically so please SOMEONE HELP ME!!!
