Hi!
I need your help guys,
Well let's say that I have an i5-2400 processor ( I know it's pretty old)
then I'm going to buy a Sapphire r9 280x tri x vapor x, will that GPU bottleneck my current processor?
And I've a CoolerMaster elite v2 500w power supply,
will it work? I mean will the PSU handle the load of the GPU?
Thank you :)
Cheers,

Solution

the cpu shouldnt bottleneck the card so you're fine in that sense, however looking at the reviews of the power supply unit you mention, it will be able to power the unit however not efficiently enough. It really is not a very good unit http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-eXtreme-Power-Plus-500-W-Power-Supply-Review/728/7 Hardwaresecrets doesnt even recommend this, a corsair CX...

It's more likely that your CPU will bottleneck your 280X, rather than the other way around, especially if you play CPU intensive games. The 280X needs 42A on 12V rails, and your PSU is only rated at 39. You'll want to get a higher quality, higher power PSU - I'd recommend 600W or better. You can get away with 550W if you get something like a SeaSonic, Antec, higher grade Corsair, etc., but the CoolerMaster probably won't cut it.
