A lightning storm hit my area last week, and I had already turned off my computer when a lightning strike hit our house. I literally saw what looked like a static shock near my vga output on my computer. Since my computer sits high up on my desk near my window I'm not sure if the lightning arced through my window.
Regardless, my computer wont fully turn on. When it boots I get 2 options to "Start Windows normally" or "Startup Repair". If I choose the first option it freezes right before the windows logo appears and nothing after that. If I choose the second option windows loads its files, then it dumps me on a black screen and nothing after that.
I took a fully functioning hard drive off a working computer and put it inside my damaged computer. Now when I Start windows normally it shows the logo, then re-starts. I put my hard drive into the working computer, and it was able to launch startup repair and is currently fixing the problems it found.
My first assumption was it fried the hard drive. Obviously something else is to blame, and my hard drive might be perfectly fine. Any ideas on what to look for next would be greatly appreciated.
