Hi all, I'm confused by the dichotomy between what a video card advertises on its box as being "max resolution" vs. the one on the official GeForce website.

The ASUS Geforce GTX 660 says max resolution = 2560 x 1600 on the box (link)

The Geforce website says max VGA resolution = 2048 x 2160, and max "digital resolution" = 4096 x 2160 (link).

What's the difference between the max VGA resolution vs. max digital resolution vs. max resolution painted on the box?? Confusing!

FYI I am considering buying this card to power a brand new 4k monitor (not looking to play heavy games).

Thanks all!

Thanks Cry0g3n, appreciate your response. Curious to know why the max resolution on the box (the one people really pay attention to, including the deadheaded techs at BestBuy) is advertised as 2560 x 1600 when it can reach higher resolutions depending on the connector used? Is it because most people use DVI?

Thanks again.

I guess it's that.

I ran into that dilemma a month ago. I plugged in my graphics card to the TV via VGA and it won't reach 1080p. But when I used an HDMI cable, I was able to get to 1080p.
