Does it harms the SSD if I store VMs on it?

Solution

As long as you don't go over ~100GB used space on the SSD, you're fine.
SSD has a life.. more IO = shorter life..
So 6 VM's doing nothing = no problem
6 VM doing crazy amounts of work/IO will "use up" life of SSD 6 x faster than 1 VM

But put that in perspective.. My SSd has been in my Machine over a year.. as a C drive.. used in "normal" use and is on all day most days. It still reports 100% of life left (well - so close that I cant tell from the bar that drops.. any life used up)

yes.. writes are what wear them out..
if you look at warranties.. they talk of how much you can write a day for x years..
So warranty may be 70Gb/Day over 5 year life of warranty.

it tends to be A LOT.. so I really depends on what you planning to do on your 6 x VM to see if you need worry

For just about any current consumer level SSD, you have to write a LOT to affect the lifespan. Like, a REAL lot. 100+GB per day, every day.

I talked to a guy yesterday that has 3+Pb written to his SSD, and still 55% life left.
Endurance tests have shown 600TB writes, and 100% life left on several consumer grade drives.

You will be fine.
And if it does start to retire cells, replace it.
