Hi,

I have Dell OptiPlex 790 MT (Mini Tower). It only has power supply of 265 watts. Also its PCI x16 slot on motherboard is limited to draw only 35 watts max from power supply. I am gamer and I want a system for gaming. I want to change its motherboard and power supply so I can install good graphic card for playing games. My system has Intel Core i5 2500 (not k version) processor . So I have few question regarding to my upgrade. I will be really thankful to you if you can help me.

My questions are:

a) Can anyone tell me the form factor of stock motherboard in this system? And also of which form factor motherboard I can install in it? (Actually I want to install this (GIGABYTE GA-H61M-DS2) motherboard. Here is its link: http://www.gigabyte.pk/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3970#ov

b) I also want to change stock power supply but I don't know its factor (Dimensions) too. Can someone tell me the dimensions of stock power supply in this system and also it will be great if you suggest any power supply that can fit inside it?

Here is my mini tower inside view: http://tinyurl.com/naxpcft

I will be really thankful to you if you can help me, I will wait for your help

Solution
YOu have no need to change the motherboard.

Just get a 450-500w Antec, XFX, Seasonic PSU and the GPU.

Both of the GPUs you are looking at are a generation old. Look at the r7 260x and the gtx750ti. Both are much better.

Thank you very much friend for replying me quickly. I measured PSU dimension and its 86mm high, 140mm long and 150mm wide. I have core i5 2500 (not k version) and I want to install a Radeon HD 7770 or maybe GTX 650 Ti. So can you suggest me PSU according to this?

Actually the problem is that the stock PSU is only of 265 watts and the stock motherboard can't draw more than 35 watts max from PSU in PCI x16 slot. That's my real problem. As good cards need power (more than 35 watts) and also more than 265 watts PSU is needed. Although I just have one 320 GB SATA 2 Hard drive and I just wanna buy a good graphic card...

The XFX unit I linked above is a good option for a PSU, you could run a GTX 750Ti with your current PSU though (it only pulls about 65W). The mobo, that 35W PCIe lane limit is a major issue though, I find it puzzling but yeah, you'll need to get a new motherboard (and operating system, your current OS is tied to the motherboard)
