button say activate instead of start on laptop what does this mean

Im attempting to get on the enternet all connections are fine however cant not connect also my bitton on left hand side say activate instead of start . It was woring fine but the kids pushed or did something

How long have you been running XP on this laptop? Did it come with the machine and if so, how long have you had the laptop?

It's hard to think what a child could do to deactivate the operating system but if that has happened, you need to buy a new system because I'm fairly sure Microsoft will no longer activate a new installation.
