I have a little money left and was just wondering is it better to upgrade from my phenom 2 x4 965 black edition to a fx-8350
Or change from my Radeon HD 6670 1GB ddr 5 to R9 280x 3gb for gaming performance.

GPU as games will use that more than your CPU. But in your case, your CPU won't bottleneck any GPU so the 280X is the best option. I would go with the MSI or Asus version as those two have the best cooling solutions.

R9 280 = AMD 7950 refresh.

R9 280X = AMD 7970 GHz edition refresh.

No they are one of the cheap no-name brands floating around like Aerocool, ACE, CiT, EZcool, Powercool etc... It's cheap rubbish that won't last long, it maybe okay for an APU build, workstation or a cheap non-demanding graphics card system.

For what the XFX 550W costs & it's quality, it's peanuts compared to buying a cheap unit that wont last long & will need replacing & eventually cost the same as the XFX for no hassle.
