I recently had to rebuild (clean start) my XP desk top. All fine, super fast start up etc., but no sound. I have done all the recommended checks, fix its et al, but somehow the sound card element of my motherboard has disappeared. Processor is an IntelG630 @ 2.7ghz with 4gig of ram. sound and video devices all appear to be in place but lots of yellow ? marks in 'other devices'. I am not prepared to pay to restore something that was already there and working just fine until I had to rebuld. Can anyone suggest how I can tweak the motherboard so that XP sp3 recognises it. Please help!

Did you download all of the drivers from the site of the manufacturer of your motherboard? If you didn't, do it now; Issues like this are usually caused by missing drivers.

Thanks Eduello. Nope not yet. And there's the rub. The machine is a Novatech 'bare bones' type (box, motherboard, power supply and that's it) to which I have added various hardware peripherals. Sorry to sound REALLY dim but would you be able to advise on how to locate the manufacturer's signature. Yes I know. Shouldn't really be mucking about with stuff but........:-)

Hi Eduello. Got hold of my PC manufacturer who confirmed motherboard as Foxconn. Went to site downloaded driver and all's well. Two things come to mind a) I should do some homework on computer maintenance b) don't do this on a Sunday! :-)
Thank you again for your helpful tips. Regards Mike
