Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my 5 year old system and trying to figure out where my money is best spent.

My specs:

Motherboard Gigabyte P55A-UD3 Revision 2.0 board
CPU: i5 760 @ 2.8GHz
Memory: 4GB
HDD: 1TB Western Digital 7k RPM
Power Supply: 700Watt OCZ
Memory: 2x2GB 1600MHz Ripjaw
Display: 1920x1080
Graphics: Radeon 4770 HD

Would I be ok with upgrading the graphics card only? Would this enable me to play games at high settings if I got a monitor with a better than 1920x1080 display?

I am hoping that my CPU and mobo will last me for at least a couple more years, is that the case?

How much benefit would I get out of upgrading my memory? Is that necessary?

Thanks for any feedback! :)

Depends on what games you want to play. The top titles out today would be a bit overwhelming for your system. The i5 is good, but stock clock is low. 4GB is not enough.

Again, it depends on the games you want to play. I would put 1080p to be the max. And even there, some demanding titles will not run well on it with just a GPU upgrade.

Sure.

Not enough is a problem. So upgrade if you are hitting the limit of 4GB. Otherwise, there is no benefit in upgrading.

So do you think I would be good to go if I upped my memory to either 8GB or 16GB and got a high end graphics card? Would the older cpu hold me back at all or would I be fine for most newer games at very high resolutions?

Prit87: I was thinking about the GTX 780 Ti or the R9 290

8GB is more than enough for gaming.

Give it a good overclock and it should be fine. But make sure you have a good cooling solution. The stock heatsink will not be sufficient in dissipating heat from an overclocking CPU.
